Pillars of DBT

Distress tolerance. Learning to manage heightened emotions in response to situations. The goal is to teach you skills on how to manage emotions without reacting in a negative way.

Emotional regulation. Develop insight and awareness into your thoughts and feelings. Be able to implement strategies to cope with emotions.

Interpersonal effectiveness. Set clear and healthy boundaries. Advocate for and assert yourself. Understand the mechanisms to effective communication and be able to apply them.

Mindfulness. Learn to be in the present moment. Use techniques such as grounding and guided meditations to recenter.

These pillars are the foundation to DBT. Mastering each leads to more balance and stability within yourself and in your ability to respond to crisis.
